I have an older compuer and upgrading it isn't an option. It's a Gateway 833mhtz with 256mb ram. I run software for a memory optimizer and within my system config my Paging File is set with an initial size of 381MB and a maximum size of 1152mb. Are these settings optimum? I ask this because according to my memory optimizer my "free physical memory" frequently drops down to 50mb and sometimes lower. Should I make any changes to my settings? On the Paging File or elsewere to speed this thing up?

I want to watch video/movies/news clips but can't because of the buffering and breaking up of video/sound. We live in the deep country where there is no high speed/cable connection. Satelite is TOO expensive for us. Thanks for the help!

I have a Compaq with a 3.0 ghz Celeron D processor, 1gb ram split into 512 mb sticks (one stock, the other Kingston), and a 100 gb hdd. From what I've heard, I should be good to go with the amount of ram that I have. It seems to be the Celeron that is holding me back. I use my computer mainly for gaming, and it saddens me deeply that I can't get a decent framerate at COD 2, and Oblivion. I want to make sure that if I invest in something, that it be what I really need to get a constant framerate. Would 2 gb ram cancel out the suck issued from my cpu, or should I just get a Pentium 4? My motherboard is compatible with Celeron D, and P4 3.0-3.6 ghz processors. Please help me out, it's torture to not be able to play Oblivion!

How does one perform least-squares analysis in Excel? I need a y=mx+b formula for a graph, and although the instructions suggest using Excel, they do not specify how to do this.

Thank you in advance.

I dont know if its the software or hardware. I believe its the hardware just from whats going on. Ok, heres the problems.

I cant burn dvds. But about an hour ago I was. Im trying to burn data dvds so I can reformat. I bought new dvds, and when I put them in, the burner says they are corrupt. So after throwing a couple, I realized its not the dvds. I loaded Windows media player, and its says theres no dvd burner installed. And Cheetah DVD burner is installed. I looked at the drivers, and it said everything was working. Theres no errors or anything.

Now what makes me think its the hardware is, if I put a dvd in, it does 1 of 2 things. Either the dvd pops out right after I hit burn, (Like 15sec), or, it just stays in and I have to manually pull it out. And for a short time, (May have been my firewall), but the drive would pop out without a dvd. So how do I fix this?

(I put this under software because I thought it sounded more like software, but hardware isnt ruled out)

I've got Norton anti-virus installed on my laptop and it's due to expire in about a fortnight. I've decided to go the whole hog and instal the Norton security suite 2006 when the other is out-of -date. Someone at work told me it can be a bit of a pig to instal. Can anyone give me a guide or walk-through instructions to instal it myself? Failing that, can somebody point me in the direction of a useful website? Thanks.
