i had a virus and thought i had got rid of it. I reinstalled windows2000 and now my computer can only run on safe mode. I think either the virus or me deleted some files that are needed for windows to run. how do i get my computer to run normally again?

I have the Ubuntu 6.06 Live CD and I am very pleased with it. I have a couple of questions though.

1) I have gone to the Ubuntu Forums for help on changing the screen resolution. I did everything they told me and it didn't work. I heard from someone that you have to install Ubuntu in order to change the screen resolution. Is this true?

2) Is it safe to install Ubuntu? Have you ever had any problems with Ubuntu?

The question "How to search a pdf file composed with picture files?" answered my first question I think, but I'd like to search the text of PDF files. Reader has options to search, but it doesn't seem to be working. I've tried this in XP, Vista and OS X. I even tried it in Acrobat. No dice. I even installed IFilter on XP. The document I want to search is for an Information Retrieval class...ha, I want to retrieve some information from the document!

I have been told if you download more than one free spyware that they both don't work as good as they should as one thinks the other will pick up on viruses and end up both not picking it up at all is this true.

My PC has all the latest upgrades. But recently it has started to go very slow when opening files and folders. Also, it's reported a couple of Explorer related errors. Sometimes it takes ages to even shut down. Frequent scans for viruses and other malware have come up clean. The Windows CD that came with the PC is only a disk image, I'll wipe the entire disk if I use that. I already bought Windows once so I don't fancy buying it again just to get Windows Explorer fixed (Isn't Bill rich enough?). Is there an exe file of Explorere I can download? If I copy the exe from my friends's PC will it work?

I have Windows and yesterday it locked up so I shut it off and went to start it back up and now it just sits on the "loading" page, with the black screen and the blue bars running thru the timer saying its starting. It sat there all night like that. Is there a way to fix it or restart it again?
