Software - October 2006

A word document was sent to me. The type looks as if it's been bolded by word formatting, but it hasn't. At least in my word version it does not appear formatted. However, if I do try to bold the type (by using the word formatting) nothing happens.

When I restart the program, and write something using the font, it shows up fine. It's as if I cannot touch the type in that particular document. It's cursed. Any ideas how to remedy the situation?

Could it be that it was bolded by the person who sent it to me and because they are using a PC and I'm a Mac that I cannot change the font back to not being formatted?

I am giving my computer to a friend because I got a new computer. I use Outlook Express and have lots of email folders that I would like to transfer to my new computer.

i just formatted my pc, I dont want to see it each time i start windows when i turn it of from security center of XP. And i dont want really to receive updates from microsoft websites. These updates makes my system run slow.

I recall that, clicking on the icon, start-up used to proceed. And I would prefer that. Now, which I don't like is, it asks me for te user name and password (my user name appears as a default and I keep the password blank and hit enter). How can I get back to icon version?

vncviewer used to work fine on windows, but for the last one month suddenly it started 90% cpu.
clean reinstall of windows fixed it.

I just downloaded IE 7(Internet Exploror 7) and I've been looking for a button that adjusts the size of the page I'm on but a can't find anything that looks like that on my browser toolbar.Could someone help me out? I'm visually impaired.

In MS Word and Powerpoint, whenever I highlight a whole selection of words and hit the backspace key, it refuses to delete the whole selection.

Similarly whenever I highlight a selection of word and key in other words or hit Enter (Return) it doesn't delete the selected words. Instead it just inserts whatever I typed before the selection.

How do I get MS office back to its original function where if I highlight a selection of words and type in new words, or hit enter or backspace, that selection of words get deleted.

My delete key works, and my backspace key works normally if i delete the words character by character. The highlight and backspace function still works outside of office. How do I solve this problem?

I have had no problems with my computer until now. I have two files I need to open, but when I try- I get a message that says "conversion in progress." That's it- the program does not respond from there, it just doesn't do anything. I have tried a system restore, but have had no luck. I really need to get to these files for school. Any ideas?
