i bought the drive off of ebay. and it's not recognizing no disks

This would not be a software problem. First you need to check to make sure the drive power and data cables are plugged in all the way. Then make sure the jumper settings on the drive are correct for how you are using it. And finally, go into the BIOS and make sure that the channel that the drive is connected to is turned on. Dell will turn off ports that are not being used from the factory. If all this doesn't work then you probably got a bad drive, return it.

you should open the case up, and make sure that the cablees are firmly into theh drive

it should automatcally recognize it

make sure that you put the drive in when all power is off.

then reboot and it should work

Try http://www.dell.com then in the downloads section choose what system you have,enter your Customer number and serial number then click submit.You'll then see your system pictured along with the items supplied.You can then download updates.
