Software - August 2006

I'm trying to learn more, without having to take a course that will put me in debt...

Can someone please list books, online sites, and anything else that can help me learn to create, or simply get a better understanding of 3D Animation?

And do you still need to be a good artist for computer Animation? Does the computer do most of the work?

I have two columns: A & B. Column A has text values, many of which repeat. Columb B has numbers. Is there a macro/shortcut/process whereby I can automatically combine/concatenate the text values in column A and in doing so, sum the values in column B? Right now I'm having to do SUM function and define range in B of the numbers that should be added for all the common text values in A.

I have flash (swf) movies. I want to burn them on a CD rom along with the Flash and Shockwave player. Do you think I can play the swf movies on my DVD player and watch them on my television?

Right now I don't have my own personal computer and have to use ones in public.
So I'm thinking about using a program that fits my needs but cannot be commonly seen in public computers. I ended up wondering if it is possible to install a program on a flash disk, and use it on any computer without any problems. Anyone tried it? How's it been? Do you recommend it? Why? Do you have any alternatives?

I know of some programs like Finale Notepad which are free downloads, but is there anything more sophisticated than Notepad available? It's a bit bulky to use.

I'm composing violin solo pieces, if that makes a difference to your answer.

a software that can ensure drafters to draw out schematic, termination, single line and all those electronic/electrical drawings. able to count out loss of power and also able to recognize and tells you how many items(ex: terminal blocks) that is needed for a specific drawings.

We can't view any picture cd's and cannot burn anything. Every now and then the d drive is gone and when I restart the computer it will then find it.

haha jk but NOW THAT I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION IN NEED HELP WITH LINUX ok i burned the iso file onto a cd, it is bootable, i have made the cdrom drive the first one in the boot order in the BIOS, and it will not run linux when i try to boot from the cd! evertime it brings up an error saying: "Cannot load DOS! press any key to retry" what should i do!?
i have used about 15 different cds 2 dvds and 3 different live cd distros of linux i need help

I have found TONS of questions on here about backing up/copying DVDs on PC computers... but I have a Mac, instead. All I want to do is two things:

1) Backup my DVDs to my Mac so I can watch them directly from the hard drive (ie, while traveling, etc.).
2) Copying my DVDs so that I have hard copies of them in case something happens to the originals.

I have purchased a program called Popcorn 2 (reviews said it was supposed to be fantastic). However, it won't copy/backup "css encrypted" DVDs -- ie, any movie DVD. So I'm trying to figure out how I can get around this. As far as I know, what I'm trying to do isn't illegal -- I just want backups of my OWN DVDs that I have PURCHASED. :) If anyone could help me out with some suggestions, I'd appreciate it.
