I agree with second answer: You're not getting the burn correct. You don't just burn the ISO to CD, you have to Restore the data in the ISO to its original format. I had a lot of trouble with this step too (trying to use Nero) and then followed advise of PuppyLinux author and used BurnCDCC. It's a simple program that only does one thing and does it correctly, and that's restore an ISO. Get it free from the author here...

Did you download Cd burner xp pro. I just downloaded Ubuntu Linux and they have a certain CD burner for burning ISO's. Try putting your windows startup disk in and getting the menu that says help. I think its F1 anyways close out of help and type Fdisk. It should say delete partitions well you need some space type the appropriate number and press enter than restart having the iso cd in it. You can either Keep your winme or win9x there or delete all partitions and start from scratch. I had a Winme oem so I download the ISO 64bit off the alternative CD. You need Cdburnerxp pro. After you download this ISO with the Cdburnerxppro than wait and use fdisk on dos to delete partitions.

I think you do not have a bootable cd. You can search right here at answers.yahoo.com:

from the top of this page, search on: "How to make iso"; then click on "discover" You'll find about 40 responses to similar questions.

You can also look for a local linux users group; they'll probably have a disk to give you. Or you can go to the Ubuntu website, they'll send you a disk, postage paid by them. Or if you email me, I'll send you one.

Good luck!

when you burned the ISO did you just copy it to the CD? If you did it will not be seen as a bootable disk. Depending on the software you are using to burn the disk, there will be options to burn an "image". The result will be a bootable disk.

Have you tried the CD in another computer to confirm it actually is bootable?

Are you sure it was "Cannot load DOS" message? Because it should not have anything to do with DOS, if it was "Cannot load vmlinuz" this is simple: either CD media gone bad or broken down burner hardware

Go into system bios and change it so it will boot to your CD drive.
