I don't trust the idea of downloading various scanners and searchers to destroy trojans and viruses. My computer got infected with six trojans. While I have Ad-Aware, AVG free, and on and on and on... I still keep getting a pop-up and I'd like to re-format and start all over if that is the ultimate true sure-fire way of getting rid of trojans and viruses. I am aware that I am starting allllll over again but that is what I'd like to do.

Okay-- I'm getting cable internet at my house today.
I realize that with cable, the internet will always be connected.
Thus, I DEFINITELY need antivirus software. However, I do not want to pay an arm and a leg for protection. :(
Is there any cheap anti-virus stuff out there that will work just as well??

Also-- what suggestions do you guys have for keeping viruses away from you home PC??

Thanks!

I have the adware Toolbar888 on my computer. I found it only by chance, and no of my spyware scanners ever found it.

I did find this site...

http://remove-toolbar888.org/ToolBar888/info.html?gclid=CKTHn8Daq4gCFRZXWAodQRhVhw

...which says if I download and install that program, it will remove Toolbar888 for me. But, I've heard that xsoftspy is just a scam, so I want to know if I can trust this site.

If I can't, will going to Add or Remove Programs and removing toolbar888 work or not?

Thanks!

Don't get me wrong. Many people watch pornography; I also do. But I want to do it in a way that my computer isn't infected.

After running anti-virus or anti-spyware, you get an option of how to handle any viruses or spyware that is found. Options include "quarantine", "remove", "ignore", etc. Why would I want to quarantine a virus instead of remove it from my computer?

My anti-virus "told" me "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSXP.EXE contains signature of WORM/Bagle.af "
My anti virus doesn't propose me to repair but only to delete or move or the quarantine!
WHAT CAN I DO? I can't delete this file, right?

I am currently using Norton; although it is effective, it is taking up a lot of my memory so I would like to use something as effective, but lighter on my computer. I have heard a lot about The Shield Pro, Bit Defender, and "AVG"; which one would you pick, and if not one of those three, which one would you recommend?

Note: I do work on a network; however, it is small and not very significant.

How can I know if the owner has installed a keystroke logging program or password sniffer?

My Internet service was down last week (construction severed a line) and I needed to make an electronic funds transfer. It freaked me out to type in the password to my checking account on some strangers computer.

Is there any way to tell if such a program is operating?

I scanned my computer using adaware and it says there that a malware named Win32.Trojandownloader.Zlob is found and I could not delete it.

I received a pop-up ad for Registry Cleaner. I down loaded it on a trial basis, it took a long time to scan my computer so I just got rid of it. It did find 4 items to be "cleaned". Is it safe and or necessary?
