I received a pop-up ad for Registry Cleaner. I down loaded it on a trial basis, it took a long time to scan my computer so I just got rid of it. It did find 4 items to be "cleaned". Is it safe and or necessary?

yes it is safe, but its not necessary to have on your computer, the registry keeps a log of how your computer loads certain programs when you turn it on, you dont really want to mess with thre registry coz if u delete something from that, it might screw ur whole computer up!

I tried it without success.

I have a laptop in which the start up includes a registry problem involving a program named "[]" that it can't find. Since there was no program like that I thought Registry Cleaner would fix the registry. It did not.

Anything else it does the free ones like Microsoft's SPYBOT Search and Destroy already handle faster.

I use it regularly. It gets rid of items added to the registry unnecessarily. I like it, but others may not. It takes about 10-15 minutes to scan.
