I am currently using Norton; although it is effective, it is taking up a lot of my memory so I would like to use something as effective, but lighter on my computer. I have heard a lot about The Shield Pro, Bit Defender, and "AVG"; which one would you pick, and if not one of those three, which one would you recommend?

Note: I do work on a network; however, it is small and not very significant.

I would pick up AVG. But if you are looking for the best detection results you should install BitDefender. I would prefer AVG to Bitdefender because AVG has real time protection while BitDefender does not.

Hello,

I understand all about Norton The Memory Hog, that is plagued with incompatibility problems all over the place;
and others that just don't do their job !!!

Here's a free tool I've been happy with for 3 years
AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND it to you:
AVAST
Nice, small, and does an absolute through job...
It even gives you NOTICE before it downloads a file that contains a trojan or virus, with an option to delete BEFORE the download is complete.

Now I can go anywhere and do anything with confidence. I could even chance to use programs that are notorious for viruses with the confidence that Avast will catch them BEFORE they are completely downloaded and can do no damage > you just press button DELETE.
Avast HOME USE version is free. Updates are free and automatic. It even reminds you to update your registration once a year, again for free.
I'm happy.

Happy surfing

The program that uses the least memory (that I know of) is Eset Nod32. You can download a free trial at eset.com. If you go to 9down.com, you can attempt at getting a free code. (requires no registration to the site.)

If you willing to go free, 2 programs I recommend are Avast and Avira Anti-Vir. They both use less than 20mb of RAM and less than 1% CPU. Avast works really well, but I happen to like Avira better because of Avira Anti-Vir's GUI...

Best of Luck...

Avg is JUNK. I recommend active virus shield. This is exactly what you are looking for. And it is free.
