I have been using Registry Mechanic from PC Tools since last year. When I do free scans now, there always seems to be a lot of errors that my registry does'nt eliminate. There are many cleaners out there, claiming to be the best. Any ideas? What about free software?

Hi,

5 Days before when i turned on my pc in the morning, i found trojan virus infected on svchost.dll in c:\. I am using Windows 2000 professional with service pack 4. I've installed AVG Free antivirus. AVG detected the virus and i took Heal option. It showed file deleted. But when i took shutdown, it shows error caused to winlogon.exe and instead of shutting down, it again restared the pc. When again login, the same file svchost.dll created in the root of C. Now i moved that file to virus vault. Whenever I am login, one command window running as c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe and stays there. I think this created the svchost.dll file. Now when i took running process, i found 5 svchost.exe instances. How can i rectify this problem? when i compared svchost.exe with my other pcs', size is the same. Please let me know how can remove this shutting down problem permanently. When it is restarted and if i took shutdown option without login, it shutsdown normally.

I've tried the anti-virus programs that don't work: norton anti-virus, ad aware, winantivirus. They advertise they work, but they don't.

I have to click "log Off" then again, and again etc. Any body have any solutions or reasons why I have this problem - this may also be part of the same problem asked in earlier question about intallation of Adobe Program and Red X in pictures etc sent or forwarded. Thanks, Steve

I have their etrust security suite and lately my computer has not been able to auto update. Furthermore, if I try to go to any of their websites, such as antivirus.cai.com or www.cai.com, I get an error message of "unable to connect to server" or "connection to server timed out". I went to their virus information page and online store, but could not access the webscan nor could I contact any of their support functions. If they are still around, I think I got a real problem.
