If I open my mail box at Yahoo! or other web based mails, can the office system administrator can take a look on those mails?

sure, anyone can spy on you and know when you are on, what you are doing and dig into your personal life without remorse. The sad thing is I know a person who i thought was a friend with good morals and character who is doing it to me as we speak. He probably already knows what I am typing as we speak.

No, chances are slim they'll see your email if you're checking it through a web page. Although, some ITs do install monitoring software on all clients so they can tap in and see what you're doing at any given moment. It just depends how they run things where you work.

I've never actually worked anywhere that did this, but I know people who have. Outside of that, there's no way for them to monitor your emails if you're checking the gmail.com site.
