I have been using Registry Mechanic from PC Tools since last year. When I do free scans now, there always seems to be a lot of errors that my registry does'nt eliminate. There are many cleaners out there, claiming to be the best. Any ideas? What about free software?

The best cleaner is actually a free one I have been using for a long time now and have never had a single problem. It is called
CCleaner--Crap Cleaner. Go to:

http://www.cnet.com/downloads

In the top right search box but in "ccleaner" without the quatation marks and click go or find or whatever the word(s) are to initiate the search. A page will appear, scroll down to ccleaner and click on it. Read some of the user reviews and you will find what a great little tool this is and how many people are using it and how high a rating it has.

Now, to make it even better, it is small, takes up hardly any room on the hard drive, and is a multi-program utility. It is a "startup" manager, a "cookie" manager (allows you to choose which cookies you want to keep very easily and gets rid of the rest), a "software removal" manager, (which lists programs the add/remove applet doesn't), a "disk cleanup" manager, and a "registry" cleanup manager, which allows for quick and easy Registry Backups right to your My Documents folder, for easy access if ever an "Merge" is needed. I have never had to Merge a backup of the registry in all the time I have used this wondefull free utility.

I can't reccomend it highly enough! Go and check it out and decide for yourself if it is worth downloading and take for a test ride. The directions are simple, the entire program is ingenious and I absolutely love it. It has saved my butt on several occassions.

Remember, when you scan of issues in the Registry, you will need to rescan a couple of times as the first go over takes out the bottom most Keys, and then a next scan will take out the next bottom Key until you run clean. Also remember to backup each time, even if it only has one or two entries of Keys to remove.

Good luck and have a great weekend.

Yes I also recommend CCleaner. Sometimes you have to do more than one scan to get some problems fixed. But you get them fixed eventually and best of all it is free (with loads of other nice tools not just for the registry but cleaning for your whole system).
