Got some weird things happening....firewalls being turned off n certain things not working.

i found one site that said to find it in the registry and delete it,but when i try to delete in registry it wont let me.have tried running scan in safe mode to delete also no use there either.

I have a FTP server running on a separate computer. Its operation is verified.

I wrote a .cmd file to use with a batch to automate downloading files to the Windows XP Pro computer. The firewall noticed I was using FTP the first time I tested, and it asked if I wanted to Block or UnBlock. I chose UnBlock. I continued and I was able to connect to the server in FTP, but when I tried to download files, it reported errors and sat trying to download instead of actually downloading.

I suspected the firewall, so I disabled the firewall and the files transfer fine. I have left instructions with the user about disabling the firewall, doing the FTP transfer and then re-enabling it, but I only want that to be a temporary work around.

Windows XP Pro experts, tell me what I am missing to make this work while the firewall stays up. I'm sure the user will forget to put the firewall back up and that will cause problems I don't want.

When you type something for a search, a list pops up with words that may be in history, but I dont see a way to clear that histroy list. How do you erase the list?

I have had major problems with spyware/viruses since yesterday late afternoon.

I have since updated my macfee antivirus and checked for viruses deleting some unwanted items. I have gone though my settings and increased my security, deleted/stopped cookies, stopped mirosoft messenger. I have installed yahoo toolbar with anti-spy and pop up blocker. I have installed free spybot.

All seems fine now as I was getting lots of warning and advert pop ups telling me to buy software. I do not have any pop ups now.

I read that if you do not 'buy' an anti-spy software and you use free software you should use two free ones rather than one so it is more cover. Is yahoo anti-spy and spybot enough or should I get something else.

Could there still be a hidden problem, as the warnings started yesterday evening and I had to go on line and generally use the pc to fix the problem today could someone already have private info on me? One warning did give me IP number of someone??

In control panel, then into my user accounts i went to change my password and noticed there was another user there as well as me. The user name is ASP.Machine A...'s account. And it says Limited account and password protected. I havent put it there and i didnt know if it was someone else e.g. a hacker? or is it microsoft or something i need? I was going to delete it but i thought what if i cant then get into my pc. Does anyone know what this is?

Norton have not helped, just give lists of checks which do not help.
I am not at all technical but it seems that the 2006 norton carries out a scan before it will let me go on line. I have no viruses or other difficulties with my computer. can anyone help? Thanks Doug

I downloaded a program that was supposed to be a codex to use internet video. I uninstalled it because it wasn't working. The next thing I know, I have a trojan, a worm and malware. My notons was expired so I renewed it. It found and destroyed 7 viruses but my computer still has a trojan. Everytime I log on to the internet via internet explorer, my homepage is automatically changed to some anti spyware site. Norton catches and stops it from changing my homepage 10% if the time. If I use any yahoo page my system runs slowly. I get pop ups for gambling sites and sex sites now. How do I get rid of this madness!!! Please, only real advice and knowledge.

when i scan my computer (norton) its all clear but i have a pop up thing telling me my computer is infected with all sorts.i click on the pop up and all it is,is trying to get me to buy sum **** softwear.its driving me mad.i think its a programme looping.i want to f_it off but dont know how.please help.i am not very computer literate!!

My anti-virus software informed me of a virus...so while running a scan...I noticed many questionable type sites appearing under the other user's Temporary Files. ( but, they whizzed by so fast! )

How can I check into the History of Pages-Visited for the Other User???
