Without knowing PC specs, it sounds like its underpowered.
Sounds like max 256mb DDR, 1.2ghz Celeron Processer?
If thats the case you should not be running the Norton Software package.
I agree, AVG is brilliant for viruses, Zone Alarm for Firewall and Spy-Bot Search and destroy for Spy-ware etc. All available for free.
On home machines, Norton not really required unless decent spec machine.

I have Norton 2006 anti-virus and I've not had any problems with it. I have mine set to run a scan everyday at a certain time. To do that go into your control panel then into performance and maintenance, then scheduled tasks. You can either add a task or if Norton scan is already showing on the list, double click and then click on the schedule tab to change it. Everyone has their own ideas of what works best for their computer. Mine came with McCaffe and I hated it. It kept disabling so I tried the Av? (I forget what it's called) that a lot of people have talked about and it messed up my computer so I'm sticking with Norton.

Hi Doug, Ive just taken Nortons 2006 off my computer what a waste of £39 it slowed my I.E. to a crawling pace and it did not stop viruses it told you that one has just downloaded onto my computer and it was going to get rid of it. Whats the point in that.So now Ive installed it and got the free AVG and it works very well, also Ive downloaded the free zone alarm.Tony

If you have downloaded the free trial - go to control panel and uninstall it. Then install f-secure instead. You can download theirs for a 3 week trial and they do a free online scan. I used Norton for 3 weeks as it came as a trial with this computer. It quarantined 5 viruses. F-secure found them and deleted them. if money is a problem use the free AVG anti - virus and if that doesn't keep you virus free. Use the Norton online scanner and then if you're really in trouble download the free trial.

Since you just installed it, it will require a full scan to check your whole machine. I would let it do the scan overnight then try again and see if you have the same problem.
It may also scan after it downloads an update.
Like the first answer said, Norton can use up alot of memory/cpu time.

I hate norton now because i was told to download it but it made my computer slow too! Use Mcafee 2006. It improves your computers speed and is the best! I think you should uninstall norton.

Doug do yourself a favour and uninstall it, Norton's is a system resource hogger and reports back to base constantly which in my mind makes it a security risk of its own. Invest in a quality program such as Avast and see the results immediately
