windows xp home edition. i just added netscape navigator and some security programs. now my computer won't turn off. it will restart but not turn off. any ideas?

My start bar at the bottom of the screen has disappeared, along with all icons on the desktop. This has happened several times before, and the only way I could turn off the computer was to turn off the powerstrip. But I was wondering if there is any other way to turn it off without turning off the power strip?

I have some kind of virus on my computer and every 30 seconds windows explorer will shut off and then restart over and over again, i can continue with other programs but it keeps restarting windows explorer. but if i try to go in to control panel or anything if i dont get there before it shuts off it will exit the window im in. could you see if you could fine out whats wrong. thanks

I work in an office and people were talking about users not being able to hear audio if their on a "brick". I have no idea what that is.

Another term I didn't know was "keyos". I'm prbably spelling that wrong.

Can anyone explain these to me so I don't look stupid next time these come up? haha.

I just swtiched or ordered from AT&T internet DSL express and phone service. I had roadrunner lite, which was okay, but, when I wanted to add a land line the prices shot up because I didn't bundle everything...mainly, it was high priced because I refused to get digital cable ( I am content with basic cable). So, I ordered DSL, but know nothing about it, and would like to know what the main difference is. Thanks.

Well it looks like someone has tried several times in the past week to obtain a cell phone in my name through different companies and the only place they could have gotten my info is from my computor. But yet NO ONE uses my computor I had to call the credit beaureaux and get them to put fraud from anyone useing my name for 7 years. I am scared to use my computor now.

recently went wireless and know that with my wired connection had an average 6-7mb speed. however since going wireless my speed has slowed badly.

ive got a 54mbps router (Orange livebox)
ive got a 802.11g wireless card
ive got the router pretty close ( 4-5mtrs) with no major solid walls in the way

ive heard on here that i could maybe change the channel of the router cos i have picked up another 5 connections in the area, but havent a clue how to do this.

any ideas guys?!?!?
