Yeeeeeeeea, that's nice and annoying isn't it?! I had the same thing happen to me last night. I eventually figured out that I need to use the "System Restore" function. Here's what I did to remedy the problem:
1)Start your computer in Safe mode with command prompt.
2)Start system restore by going to this location via command line. C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe You should be able to figure out the rest from there. Again, that program name is rstrui.exe . After that, i suggest you do what I did, get some spy-ware protection STAT!
Good luck, you should be up and running in like 30 min.

With ANY virus, the only guaranteed way to correct the problem would be to wipe out the hard drive (low level format) and reinstall Windows.

Any other answer is not guaranteed to work, without putting a lot more effort into diagnosing the problem. In which case, it would have been more time effective to just rebuild from scratch.

And buy an anti-virus program!

Hello,

You may need to restore your settings back from yesterday.
In windows 98 restart the computer and hit the F8 key every second before the windows logo pops up. Now when you get to the start menu select command prompt> now type ScanReg/restore>view backups>select yesterdays cab file> type R for restore>the computer will then ask you to restart> When windows come up your desktop should be back like it was yesterday.
In XP go in safe mode and perform system restore from yesterday..

Once you get in windows delete all cookies and temporary internet files immediately and then go to Start>Run and type msconfig>uncheck any strange start up items and then scrool to the right and get the the location of the culprit files.

To get rid of those files you may need to go to F8 again>command prompt> del those files from their location.

Good luck.

Um sounds like you got a nasty virus. Your best off buying a decent anti virus. Or trying to download one like AVG if you can some how think of a way. If not just backup everything and use your bootable windows cd!! :(

Reboot your computer using safeboot or a bootable disk. Then run a virus checker.

Two other options..

1) Check your keyboard..maybe the keys are stuck
2) If you can get it to safeboot.. use RESTORE to set the computer back to before it went south on you.

THEN get, install, and run a virus checker...
