Open MS Word.
Click Format > Fonts
Select the Font, Font Style and Size you wanted as default.
Click on the 'Default' button on the bottom left of the screen
Click 'Yes' to the dialogue box which appears.
Now when you open any new document this will be selected.
You can also have different templates with different default Fonts. The one you set will be used in the Default Template.

You can change it to Arial by doing the following:
Open Word, click File/New
In the New Box (bottom right hand corner) Click the bullet "Template", then Okay.
Change the font on your document to Arial, then click save.
Make sure the path points to:
C:/Program Files/Microsoft Office/Templates
Save your document as Normal-1 (to identify the new file)
Close Word and use My Computer to find the Templates folder by following the above path.
Delete the "Normal" file and RENAME "Normal-1" to "Normal"
Everytime you open Word, the setting should be for Arial.
You can also use the File/New function for creating your own templates.

Yes, you can do it. I've done it many times. Read the Help files FIRST.

I stopped using Word (Open Office!), but I think it's under Tools > Options. Look for something like: "Make this your default font" when you select Arial.

Sure you can. All you need to do is open up your font menu and go down to the bottom left of that window and click on the default button. It's very easy. Good luck.
