My good friend got a new computer and she gave me her old one. Whats the first thing i should do to make sure its up to date?

A normal Windows task manager, when opened has a variety of tabs that you can click on to see what is going on. All mine shows up is the processes, but the tabs with applications, performance etc. do not show up. Is there a way to fix that? And is there a place I can find out what processes should be running?

looked at my temporary Internet files and there are thousands! i am worried it could be slowing my computer down,wanted to know if it was safe to delete them and what would it do if i stopped saving them?

I have dial-up. This was not a problem until recently. The caller cannot get through unless i answer phone on the first or second ring.
Of course this only happens when my computer is turned on. I am not connected to the internet when this occurs.

I tried to upload a 554-page book manuscript to my printer today using this program. I had been working on the book for five years, and editing and formatting for most of this year. The whole file was completely destroyed. All I have left is a 1Kb file with five lines of text.

after system crash, i have re setup my pc again as if i was setting up a new computer. i didn't see any of my old files. i have tried running the data recovery cd, but it didn't work. what to do? urgent help, please. i want all my old files back.

Its just a blank screen that i cant click out of (not right away) generally it will close on its own, but mostly if i click out of it i get a "end program, send error report" series of messages.

Its seriously killing my IE abilities. It pops up ALL THE TIME (iam LAN connected) and slows my computer down almost completely.

Does anyone know what this is, or how the hell to get rid of it? If tried nixing it with spywear finders, anti virus programs... ive done everything i can think of and cant seem to get rid of it.

I recently downloaded a movie but since i don't have a dvd burner it won't fit on a single blank CD. Is there a program out there that I can use to cut the movie in half in order to put it on 2 disks?

it alwwwwaaaayyss says the file you selected in a valid image please choose another, if i keep dragging it ino the box it eventually lets me but its getting annoining, how do i stop it doing it????

so like when i play some games with flash, it doesnt work...like u can see the game and everything but when i click, it doesnt do anything

i have a lot of dvd that i want to make copys of so if one gets damaged i'll have a backup one. i have xp pro it has the brunning software install i want to know how to tranfer my movie to a blank cd.
