I always do it every time before I turn the computer off, because I have large amounts and they take up a lot of drive space and can make the computer slower.
Some of the files are very nice to drag off to the desktop - .swf files that are made in Flash. This is because I am interested in it. That's why I keep some. If you do play any online games and they are from flash game sites, go check your temporary Internet files folder because they'll be in there. As long as you remember or note down the name of the game!

Open up Start>All Programs (Windows XP)>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup

Deleting them will not hurt your computer in any way. It can help speed up the operation of your computer in general, but it can also slow down the internet, as Internet Explorer checks your temp int files for recently visited pages and can pull pics and full pages from your temp files faster than loading them all new.

If your computer is generally very sluggish, then go ahead and delete them. Otherwise, they do not really hurt anything.

Every time I log off of internet I always look into my temporary files to see if I have caught any colds!!! then get rid of all of them straight away to make sure they dont slow me down or infect any part of my computer. I have lost computers in the past to those wonderful people that enjoy infecting everything I really wish they could catch something horible and disapear. Just get rid of everything in your temp folder right away.
