I tried to upload a 554-page book manuscript to my printer today using this program. I had been working on the book for five years, and editing and formatting for most of this year. The whole file was completely destroyed. All I have left is a 1Kb file with five lines of text.

I did a bit more work and found a recovered file (*.wbk) on my hard drive, so all is not lost, but it did have something to to with the program. Maybe I had the document open when I tried to upload it.

Hi,
I wonder what you did wrong. If you upload a file to the Internet (for instance to the site your printing company), a COPY is being uploaded and the original file will remain unchanged on your computer.
So I believe your problem has nothing to do with the uploading program (SmartFTP)
SmartFTP is a good FTP client. I am using it for years without any problems.

Yes, it would be extremely unlikely if NOBODY else had trouble with it. You cannot possibly be so solipistic (sp?) to imagine that you were the ONLY one. You are not a child; in fact, you are a grown woman of intelligence, talent, and skills--not to mention attractiveness.... Therefore, I am a bit surprised you even asked the question :)

Sounds like you inadverently overwrote your local copy. you should always make backup copies of import data like your book.

I have at least 3 backups made of my important data. two on the local drive and one on CD.

Invest in some backup software to make backing up easier. I heard Maxtor made a nice external hard disk that has a very easy to use backup software on it. It supposedly works by pushing just one button.

Anyhow, seagate took over maxtor but seagate said they were going to keep the backup software.
