I have a gateway MX6128

1.50 GHz
Intel Celeron M
248MB of RAM
XP Home

I tried a bunch of hardware cleaners/antispyware/antivirus(ccleaner, windows defender, adaware, windirstat, auslogics disk defrag, avg, spyware doctor, ect.)

I think the problem is my RAM. Should I upgrade it? and if yes, 1GB or 2GB?

I'm a high school student and looking to buy a laptop. A fairly cheap one, in the $700 - 1100 range (NZ currency) but not a mac.

It would be for playing some games, a medium amount of music but mainly stories and assignments.

What are things that I should look out for when deciding?
And could someone explain some of the basic techinical language?
Lol I feel like a noob.. :P

Whats the minimum amount of space I should buy, in your opinion?

Oh! And what's the difference between a notebook and a laptop?

Where would I find a laptop for under the 800 dollar mark for courier delivery to QLD brisbane, I want to buy it online for the best price and i want a 200gb hard drive or more and it should be cheap cheap cheap!!!

Also why are laptops called notebooks sometimes ??

I just got a new laptop the other day. I used to have a desktop. There's an sd card slot and a pc card slot. I use an sd card for my digital camera, but what can it do for my laptop? Also what is a pc card slot? And how do I get wireless internet on my laptop....does my internet service provider have to do it for me?

I have the Sony Vaio VGN NR 180 E/W. The Front Side Bus (FSB) is 667 Mhz. In consideration for the memory upgrade (it has Vista with only 1 GB of Memory), should I get the 800 Mhz even though the FSB is only 667 Mhz? I do not wish to go inside the BIOS. Thanks for your help!

What special hardware would be needed to make it 64 bit? Does it depend on the processor, memory or something else? An advertisement says its running Vista 32 bit AERO experience. Does it mean that 64 bit can not be installed.

I have a an Intel Based Macbook with 2gb ram running Leopard, and I have a EMachines desktop with 512MB ram. Soon I will start being on call with my work on weekends and I need Windows to log in to my work pc from home. Should I put out 150 bucks for memory sticks, put out 200 bucks for Windows or put the money into a Windows based laptop?

I'm 13 years old and I have a Gateway laptop. But at school my friends have like an iMac, Apple, Sony Vaio, or HP and I feel really embarassed that I have a Gateway because I heard that it's not a good brand. But I'm really okay with my laptop because it works great and the only reason my parents got me a laptop was so I could do my essays. But there's other stuff I do with my laptop like surfing the net, chatting on IM with my friends, playing games, music,etc. So is Gateway an OK brand or really poor brand because my parents said that I'd get a new high tech laptop that's a really good brand in like college or when I'm around 17-18.

In 2004 I got a Dell inspiron 1150. A few months later it needed a new motherboard and fan.

For the last two years it's been so slow it's unusable. They've tried everything!
- reinstall OS
- memory upgrade and by the way i got fatal errors from my new dell memory card which they replaced for another one, which gave me the same error!
- change windows setting
- delete unecesary files
- last week they put in another fan
- last night they put a new harddrive, processesor, motherboard, RAM, and another fan, and guess what????
it gave me another fatal error and then it doesnt recognize the CD to reinstall windows.

You'd think customer support would be helpful? No they refuse to realize that computer is defective and must be replaced. Regular customer support gave me the special claims unit which continues to invent issues just so they don't have to replace it. Then every time I say enough is enough they say ok I'll call you back in 20 minutes, and then I'm waiting hours! AH!!

alright. soo I hate the fact that in order to see the screen i need to have my battery plugged in so that the screen brightens up with light...do any of you dell or maybe the non-dell laptop owners know if there is some sort of setting that I need to fix or look for in order to keep the light on without the use of the plug??

I'm looking to get a laptop and one of the main price differences is because of the graphic card. I'm not going to use it for gaming. If I purchase the laptop with the better graphic card (all other specs being the same), would DVD quality and video streaming be a lot better? Or won't make much of a difference? Thanks

I bought a new laptop last year and there are a couple different options for vista to temporarily put your computer in standby. I just wonder which is better for my computer in different situations. Options again are Standby, Hibernate, and Shutdown.

Hey guys,

I have a sony vaio c220e laptop. And sony chooses to install a ton of crappy bloatware on their laptops along with some sort of driver check that ONLY allows you to use their drivers. Which needless to say I hate with a passion, now my laptop has legal version of vista home premium but it does not come with a vista cd (in case i want to format). Instead it uses a hidden partition and in that partition al the bloatware and driver crap is included, which I don't want. Soooo....

Is there anyway for me to get a 'free' (legally) or even pay for a vista home premium iso. I just want to be abled to get it instantly as I need to do this soon while I have the time. Of course I could hit up a torrent but god knows what crap is injected into those files.

I figure maybe microsoft has a place you can dl the iso since you already legally have the os to begin with.

God I hate sony and you should never buy their crappy laptops.. ;p

for instance when we say that a laptop is 21 inches, how exactly is this determined/measured?
is it the size of the screen or...?
if the size of the screen is the the hieght, or width, or diagonally, or how?
