alright. soo I hate the fact that in order to see the screen i need to have my battery plugged in so that the screen brightens up with light...do any of you dell or maybe the non-dell laptop owners know if there is some sort of setting that I need to fix or look for in order to keep the light on without the use of the plug??

there are buttons to make the screen brighter on all laptops. you have to find the function key. it says Fn usually in blue letters, not always. and find the buttons with a sun symbol or light symbol. you press and hold the Fn key and press the light symbol buttons to make the screen brighter or darker.

You can brighten the screen with the keyboard shortcut. I know what you mean. My Dell 1520 when unplugged gets really dark. But most of the time I just click the 2 button click to raise the light level. Sometimes I go to max which means the battery will go down faster but sometimes the meter barely changes when I do. You can go into control panel and change your settings for battery and power. You can tell it, when you go on battery not to change the screen brightness. I dont have my laptop in front of me to get specific. But its not a problem with your dell. It probably is a byproduct of our reflective screens, they sorta make the darker screen look even darker when you start seeing the reflected keyboard.

My laptop does the same thing too. You can hit FN and the up arrow and that will make it a bit brighter. It won't make it as bright though. I think it is to save the battery life though. (I have a DELL INSPIRON 600m.) Other than that I don't think there is a way to make it brighter. Sorry if that doesn't help a lot. P.S. I was confused when I first got it and was upset but now I'm used to it. Also maybe after a while you will get used to it.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

on the backside of the keyboard you may desire to have a functionality key, it would appear as if this ( FN ) or some thing comparable. Then on the best you may desire to have numerous F key is like F1, F2, F3 etc. Press and carry the FN key on the same time press the F7 key tha will develop the brightness mutually as on battery. it could have an emblem that appear as if a solar with an arrow pointing upward.

Check the power settings in Control panel. They should let you set the screen for full brightness while on battery.
