Looking to buy a laptop and would like to get the 'right' service since they require a 2 year contract. Current cell phone contract expires in Jan, so I will be free to change companies if need be.

In normal mode, everything is fine. It's a Dell Inspiron E1705. In safe mode, when I close the lid, screen is black so I have to restart my laptop to see things normally. Several months ago, Dell tech told me that they will replace the motherboard and the LCD display. But I wasn't in USA. Now that I'm back in USA, I called Dell and a tech told me that it's not hardware but software problem. He made me do a repair on XP but it didn't solve the problem. Then he proposed me to reinstall XP! I told him that I have many professional programs on my laptop and it would take me too much time to reinstall all the programs, configure them, and the datas.
So I said no. Then after the XP repair, I lost 1 day to do windows updates and to fix a few programs that didn't work anymore.
What do you think? is it a hardware or software problem? should I leave it like that or do something else?

hi could someone recommend a laptop within £500 pound range, that is capable of playing city of heroes,at a low/med setting? its mainly going to be used for for the internet but i just need something so that my son can play the occasional game of city of heroes,hes not a regular gamer. any help is greatly appreciated,thanks

Ok i just bought one, however im not sure if it might be compatable with vista. I've gone onto the website and there are different models with the same model no: F5D7010. How do i find the exact model number. I've looked on the card, everywhere in the box really need help.

have a compaq pressario c306 US and when i turn it on within 10 seconds it turns back off ive tried pressing f11 and going to safemode but it cant even get there it just keeps going in a cycle of restarting what can i do i really need help ive tried taking the ram chip out allready and sometimes it fixs the turn off thing but then my screen ius black and i cant see anything

sometimes my computer freezes or just runs slow and i cant shut it down so i force it by pressing the power button for a couple of seconds.is this bad for the computer, motherboard,.... if it makes a difference i have a windows laptop.

I fully charge my laptop every night and I don't usually use it during the day. But when I use it again at night time the battery says there's only 10% of power left.

I know that a lot of people will say Mac without question, but here's what I need.

I need a computer that I can listen to music on, one that I surf the web on, play games, do homework (I'm a college student with a Marketing Major).

I don't do video/audio/photo editing. Should I still spend more money on a Mac or just stick with PC's because I don't use the added goodies that Mac has.

Also, getting new software for the Mac will cost me a bundle, $150 for Office, $150 on games. I already have office for Windows and the games for Windows.

I've recently reformatted my laptop and I've found that the sound doesn't work. How can I fix this? However, Sticky Keys and Alerts (Errors) have there sounds when they occur. However, songs etc. don't work. The HP Pavilion dv2000 has built-in speakers but when I go to control panel and try to adjust the volume it says no speakers are connected. Additionally, when I connect my earphones it still doesn't work. Please Help! I have bought a USB pcmcia cardbus. I hav downloaded the drivers and the computer rcognises it. When I put in any USB device, nothing happens. In the maual it says that the power supply i running at 100Ma for each port. It came with a USB power cable, but I am unable to use my computers original USB port as my nephew has buggered that one up for me. I am ble to use a 5v adapter in place of the USB power. Which in the manual says that each port will run at 500Ma. What is Ma. Will my USB devices work with 500Ma power.

In my HCL Laptop while booting an error "Delayed Write Failed - Unable to save all the data for the file userenv.log. This may be caused by failure of your computer hardware or network connection error" occurs. After that "System Error - An I/O operation initiated by the registry unrecoverably error" also occur. My laptop was running when the battery died...I have plugged the laptop in using the power cord but it won't turn on...There is a light for the battery that is green when the battery has power and red when it does not..The light remains red even when the laptop is plugged in...Does the battery just need to recharge? Or is it something else?? Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks

is there any way of us allocating memory to a video card? i have a gma 950 card with a max of 32 mb for video memory and 192 as shared memory(total approx memory of 224 mb). i want to add another 32 to the video memory. i have already treid BIOS but there is no option of changing the video memory. can we do it thru OS(i have a windows vista home premium) and my laptop make is toshibha satellite series.
