My laptop was running when the battery died...I have plugged the laptop in using the power cord but it won't turn on...There is a light for the battery that is green when the battery has power and red when it does not..The light remains red even when the laptop is plugged in...Does the battery just need to recharge? Or is it something else?? Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks

It turned out the power cord had died. I took it to Best Buy and they checked it and told me what was wrong. Thanks for your suggestions!!!

Unplug the laptop and try removing and re-inserting the battery (you might want to wait a few minutes for the battery to start charging).

If that doesn't work then send it in for repair.

If you can't power it on without the battery in it then there's a hardware problem, if it's under warranty it should be a free service.

Try this~
Unplug the AC adapter from the laptop.
Turn the laptop over and, unplug the battery from the laptop.Leave it out for 30 sec. Put the battery back in. Be sure to lock it in place.
Then, plug the AC adapter plug back into the laptop.
Plug it into the wall AC outlet. Turn your puter on.
if this doesn't help, you may well need a new battery.
One reason why you should never ever let your battery go without being exercised, This means, unplug the AC every once in awhile so that the battery gets used. In all cases, never drain your battery below 10 or 20% of it's charge before recharging it. Good luck~!!

If the battery is shorted out, it will suck all the power from the power cord & power supply. Try running it with the battery out.

check the plug again. make sure it is firmly plugged into the eclectic socket and the laptop. I run my laptop with no battery because it is lighter without it so it should work with a dead one as long as it is plugged in.
