The default setting might lower the brightness of the screen if the keyboard or mouse hasn't been touched after a bit of time.

it also may be that the power cord has a short. that will cause the screen to flicker to lower brightness. have you set the powersaver to highest performance?

its set up dirreantly in acpi or you have a hardware problem
