My Dell laptop works alright off of the battery ,which is dying out
I t will not work off of the AC power converter

I tried another known good Dell power converter and still no luck
Dell website offers very little help

Can the power port behind the laptop be bad?

Any known websites?

I have a Tecra 8200 from Toshiba. It's been a pretty good laptop since I have had it. Almost had it a year and a half. About 7 months into ownership, I noticed that the monitor starts to flicker and then become dim. This happens when I run it from the battery or plugged in. I can close the top and re-open it and everything will be bright again for about 30 to 45 minutes then it goes dim again. If I turn it off and let it set (or gently tap the side of the computer top) the screen will brighten back up like no problems. Any idea what's causing this? If the monitor goes out, can you replace them? Need serious answers. Thanks

i have an inspiron e1501 from dell.
i bought the laptop at about $800 dollars in january, and my father dropped it by accident. now the screen is destroyed.
i called the dell people and the woman said it would cost about 500 dollars (without tax) for the repairs and would take about 10 days for me to get it back.
after checking online, i see that my laptop is now for $499.
should i just buy a new one?

I have loved my Mac but out of nowhere it totally burned out on me and I needed to shell out $1200 just to fix it. The guy said it was really weird especially since I am super careful about how I handle it. Now I am in desperate need for a new laptop and I am now weary to go back to a Mac, but I did love it. I basically need something for school, writing papers, storing photos, and i defiently need Wire less interent preferably Wi fi coz I take classes online. I am wondering if I should a PC or a Mac again, what are your suggestions? Also I am going to be majoring in Information Systems so should I get a PC so I am more familiar with working with the software??

Ok so i have a computer and it says the maximum amount of ram it can have is 2g , ok so if i get 2g ram (2x1g) and add lets say a 512mb graphics card , will my machine no longer work or will it be fine?

Because my old toshiba satellite laptop is able to do just that by right clicking on the desktop>properties>settings>display>and then toggling the tv option. But I don't know if i will be able to do this on a windows vista computer.

I got the laptop a few months ago, and the wireless was working fine, then I lost my connection ( happens once and a while ) but I could not connect back into. Any idea whats wrong ? Or tips on what I can do? It's a toshiba, with the wireless switch, and the switch is on, I'm always running on Windows XP. I've tried system restore and the repair button none have worked so far. Any help would be greatful : )

when people have illigal files on their computer that could get them aressted, whay do people always tell them to destroy the computer? couldent they just destroy the hard drive and then replace it with a new hard drive? Wouldent that just destroy the files? Is there a problem with this?? (Don't worry i am just curiouse i don't have any illigal files)

I read the same questions and answers, but everyone says something different. Like Toshibas are bad, then others say they are the best???
I just need a cheap good laptop that I won't have to replace all the parts and won't crash or anything. Just need it for portable internet use.
I was thinking to go with Dell or HP, but which one is better for my needs.
Want one that has a longer battery life and won't get hot really fast. Internet does not need to be the fastest, but not the slowest either.
So whats the best laptop for my needs?

I need a good and reliable portable hard drive. I need at least 120 GB of space and it has to have USB 2.0 and FireWire 400 or 800 capability. I also need it to be able to work on Mac OS X and I don't want anything too cumbersome or anything that looks stupid. Oh, and, I want to be able to buy it in a store as well, preferably in a price range of $100-$200 0_o. Please help!!

I have a very old laptop, it has Windows 3.1 and nearly all the programs run from an early version of DOS.

The desktop is more current. Both are IBM compatible.

It can be interfaced using, (I think), a program called "BRIEFCASE" - which is missing from my desktop. The cable to be used is a double-female with two plugs; a nine-pin (female) and a twenty-five pin female (on both ends).
