Nope. Graphic Card RAM is Completely Different To Your Motherboard Ram That Slots into your motherboard.
IE: you could have 2GB of system Ram, and 512MB in your Graphics card, and its still ok !

Hello,
(ANS) Any laptop or desktop computer can usually be upgraded, meaning that although the machine will come with a standard amount of RAM pre-installed.
The makers (manufacturers) normally include extra slots on the main system board (motherboard) for the addition of extra memory chips or memory sticks in future. Each motherboard will vary as too the amount of extra RAM you can add, also each motherboard and operating system will require a specific type of RAM when upgrading.
**The computers system bios has also to recognize the RAM type as well though.
**Most computers bought from new now tend to come with at least 1GB or RAM and low specification systems would only come with 512megs.
**Make sure that the 2GB's of RAM are the same RAM type & speed as already fitted to the system. such as SDRAM, RAMBUS RAM, SRAM, or EDO ram and so forth.
**For example:- If the chips already fitted are say 400hrtz RDRAM then you would have to buy 400hrtz RDRAM chips in matching pairs. i.e. x2 512megs @ 400hrtz to fit into x2 slots on the system board.
**Its seriously worth doing some of your own research before you buy any extra RAM, why? well just because the maximum amount of RAM is 2GB's that doesn't necessarily mean its money well spent. Why? an additional 2GB's wont necessarily make your machine faster, your computer will only gain the benefit of 2GB's of RAM if you are using image intensive programs like Photo-shop or doing Video edition or using 3D modeling software, or perhaps using memory hungry games.
**Additional RAM added to a machine provided its the correct type of RAM and that its fitted correctly & is the right speed should work fine with any graphics card, even a video card that has 512megs on board.
Regards Ivan

The 2G RAM limitation addresses only the RAM slots on your MoBo.
If you get a 512Mb Graphics card it will work just fine.

Those two items are totally independant of each other. For instance, when looking at a graphics card most of the time they refer to the ram as GDDR in which the G stands for Graphics.
But like I said, totally seperate. You will be fine.

you can't add /update a graphics card to a laptop
you can increase the memory the graphic card is allowed perhaps, via the bios..
but no u can't upgrade the card, just perhaps increase the memory the laptop has allocated for graphics.

It will be fine. The graphics card will manage its own RAM.
