I read the same questions and answers, but everyone says something different. Like Toshibas are bad, then others say they are the best???
I just need a cheap good laptop that I won't have to replace all the parts and won't crash or anything. Just need it for portable internet use.
I was thinking to go with Dell or HP, but which one is better for my needs.
Want one that has a longer battery life and won't get hot really fast. Internet does not need to be the fastest, but not the slowest either.
So whats the best laptop for my needs?

I have a Dell notebook which I only paid $499 for. It is very dependable, I never have to restart, and it only gets warm. The battery life is about 3 hours at best. The type of laptop won't affect the internet speed.

So I say go with Dell. They're made here in Austin, TX. It's so hard to find anything made here anymore.

While I still say Toshiba is best, let's go over your top considerations.

HP you can SEE at retail stores. Many of these have a return policy, so if it's BROKEN, you can return it right away. Some give as long as 2 months for you to figure that out. Buying from a retailer also gives you an advocate against the manufacturer, in case it's CRAP. You see, every manufacturer has a lemon. Costco is among the best of these.

If you ever called Dell Tech support, you would understand why Dell sucks. If you call HP, you would be thrilled at the support.

Dell still shipped EXPLODING Batteries, when they knew about the problem. Would you have? While they eventually made good, would you do without for months?

Go with HP of your choices. Look at the model and compare Size vs Weight. A huge laptop screen, means HEAVY. A lightweight laptop means smaller screen. At a good retail store you can really tell. Picking up your monitor to determine how heavy the image of the laptop is, simply won't tell you squat.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Go simple and cheap! Walmart Acer 5570z which might run you less than $600 and you will have tech support and you can purchase the extended warranty plus it comes with some really impressive specs. I have one with windows Vista and I also have an old Compaq Presario 1500 with XP. At least check it out.
Another option is to go to ebay and buy a used model but remember that you will be taking the risk as far as the condition of the unit.

For us to tell which is the best laptop you need to tell us how much you are willing to spend and what you are going to use it for.

Other then that you just go to the store and try to find the fastest processor, video card and the largest hard drive you can for the amount of money you are willing to spend.

Really all name brands are the same when you get down to it. They all offer support if you need it and most of the time if you can't get support you just go to a computer repair shop....which is faster anyway. The thing you need to watch out for is really the stores return policy.

Get the Everex X5000XT. I just got one from Newegg for about 800$. It has a big 17" screen, dual core AMDs, and a kickass nvidia 7600 graphics card. And it has a dual layer dvd burner and 2 hard drive bays. Pretty nice for that price.

somthing with integrated graphics and a core2duo ... any of the namebrands will be fine ... theyre all pretty well made the big problems come when u drop ANY of them or spill some liquid on them .. i like toshibas i had one for a couple of years, i traded it for a big powerful sager with highend graphics but the battery life on that one is about 45 minuets lol .. if u need batterylife get an integrated graphics one with a smaller display ..

Toshiba makes the best laptops. I would highly recommend a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092. I have one, and I love it.
