They both will have about the same perfomance. Don't mind the numbers difference. Go with the Centrino. The Centrino specification was designed around battery savings and the Pentium M processor that this standard is built around is actually the base for Intels latest and greatest. Using a relatively weak desktop processor in a laptop is not a great idea... especially if you want to conserve battery power
Also you are gauranteed wifi with Centrino.

Centrino is just another name for Pentium M. In fact, Centrino itself used to refer to the "platform" of chips that Intel made for mobile computing. However people started to refer to the CPU inside as Centrino, thinking it's like "Pentium Inside" that Intel used to put on the machines. And Intel decided that they may as well rename the CPUs.
Pentium M's are more efficient than regular Pentiums, but the Core series are better than the Pentiums. I'd say those are about equal, I'd pick the newer CPU just on being more modern. Of course, that'd depend on whether that Pentium is a Pentium M or not.

Core 2 Duo is the best. Pentium 4 is dead. In fact all pentiums are dead, outdated now. Sad :-( 1. Yes, you might not need it now, but the more powerful a laptop you buy now, the longer you can use it before it becomes obsolete, or unable to run the latest software efficiently. 2. Centrino processors are a bit old now. You probably wont be able to play new games on this. 3. I'd say its worth about 600 US dollars. 4. Battery life depends on the battery. Its different for different brands.

It has to be 2.4 pentium 4 because it's faster, whereas the 1.6 centrino have an advantage of wireless wifi internet connection is a lot slower.

Which ever one is Dual core would be better, and the P4 is older than the Centrino. Not to mention that the Centrino is built for mobile use, so you will get the most out of your battery from the centrino. But for speed the P4 may be better!

Yo, i'd say the pentium 4 because of the higher clock speed. But if the Centrino is relatively new it may offer highe performanc even with the lower clock speed

i'd say the pentium 4.
my parents' pc at home has a 2.0 ghz, which they got when it just came out like 2.5 years ago and the thing still hauls... which is very surprizing for a PC. it may beat up the battery a little more, though--- you going to be traveling a lot?
