I have an HP Pavillion Laptop. I was working on it and the screen just went black. You can faintly see the screen, but it is incredibly dark. I contacted HP and one person said that it may be a video adapter and one said I needed a whole new LCD at the cost of $600. When I hook the computer up to my external monitor it works fine. Also, I live in Japan and HP is giving me the run around about fixing it because I originally bought it in the USA. I also was told it could be the back light. Does anyone know if it is the back light, about how much it will cost to fix. Or if there are any other suggestions of what it could be? Thanks.

I know almost nothing about computer hardware. Currently my laptop has 504 MB of RAM and I have another 504 MB card left over. If I combine them both (the laptop has 2 slots), would it increase the efficiency of the computer?

This is a rather straightforward question. I've had this problem on two systems so far, both with the same chassis. The computer in question is a e1705

Okay, Whenever I have itunes or similar open and play music at 25-50% volume, my computer runs like it should, no problems whatsoever..

However, when I bring it up to like 80-90% volume the greenlight that indicates that hard drive is spinning goes solid green, and the computer locks up hard core. The music still plays but every other program won't respond. I have to hit the mute button on the front of the computer, wait a minute, then when the mute command goes through, everything is back to normal. Programs open quickly ect..

Which leads me to believe that the speakers are causing some sort of magnetic interference with the Hard Drive.

Any ideas, world?

My d.sktop computer has a black screen an is repeating over and over missing MTLDR. I'm not sure how to correct it. Any ideas. Also I think somehow a few things like programs got transfered from my laptop to my desk top can this hurt my computer?

I closed the lid of my MacBook, and it made the sound of the computer when it turns on and then I opened it and it took me to the login screen. Now when I open the Apple programs, it's like I'm opening them for the first time. My iTunes library is gone, my pictures are gone, my bookmarks from Firefox and Safari are gone. Anyone have any idea what happened? Or how I can fix it?

I think my problem is programs running in the back ground and this is what is taking it so long to start up cos when I am in everything is quite quick and the only slow thing is opening new windows. So what I need to know is how to find out what is running in the background so I can remove it. I've removed the tool I used for my MP3 player as it was after I was copying cd's to my pc then to my mp3 that it started so it's something to do with them most probably. In my add/remove programs list there are some programs i don't know what they are....anyone know what Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 , 1.1 Hotfix and 2.0 are? Do I need these? Also MSXML 4.0 SP2. All 4 have the wee computer and disk symbol to the left.

Anyway any help would be most appreciated.

i'm not a computer person so i'm confused about all this please help!

i recently tried to add another language on my laptop through control panel >date,time,language and regional options. But now my sound doesn't work! i think i've deleted some of the files for sound, is that possible? when i click on itunes it says

"itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly"

when i click on the little speaker icon at the bottom right it says

"There are no active mixer devices availible. To install mixer devices go to control panel and add hardware"

can i download this hardware?

Dell Latitude Pentium II 366 Mhz runing winows XP pro it is the OS that did it and I didn't do this to it I just need to know fix it I do know that I will need to use the regedit.exe to fix it not the bios set up.

One night i was on the laptop and i accidently turned it off (the power cable is a bit dodgy) when i went to restart the laptop the screen was blank however there was a very thin blue line down the right of the screen, whilst booting this is all i saw, there was no picture or anything.

Also while booting i pressed F2 to see if i could see anything in the settings to fix it and there wasn't anything, i could see the settings on the screen though which makes me think that it isn't the screen that has gone.

Any ideas if this can be fixed?

I have a HP 2015AP aka Compaq Presario V2000.
I have just put in 2G of RAM but feel it's time to upgrade the rest.
I want to get a bigger processor, hard drive and update the vid/graphics too.
Which of these are upgradable and how do I tell them apart from desktop items when buying online?

it crashed twice. 1st time, it went to a black screen that says restart normally but it just keep restarting and going back to the same place.and it went to a blue screen that has codes on it. CAN'T GET TO THE MAIN DESKTOP. he fixed it by putting a disc in and fixed it. it was normal. it crashed again months later but this time he tried to fix it the same way, but it didn't work. its a compaq.

I'm not that much of a gamer, but if I purchased this laptop, I'd want to maybe get a few games, such as Counterstrike Source. I've customized an hp computer with a Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo T2350 (1.86GHz/ 2MB L2Cache) Processor, 2GB of memory, a 160 GB hard drive, and a 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400 Graphics Card. What is the most powerful type of game I would be able to play, and are there any recommendations for what I could do to get a better performance for gaming at an affordable price?

I definately want a nice gaming experience and a good notebook. Which is why I have chosen the Sentia m3450. However, I hear nothing but good things about the Macbooks. Once filled with the things I want, they both cost almost exactly the sameamount of money. I don't have an ipod (I put my songs on my psp).

Which should I go with? The gaming pc or the awesome Mac?

i have a vista hp pavilion entertainment PC. and a dsl modem and linksys router. when i connected my laptop to the modem directly and then after it connected, i took out the ethernet cable and put in the linksys. then i connected to the linksys and it would connect to the internet. But after a blackout a few weeks ago, it doesn't work anymore. explaination?
