i have a vista hp pavilion entertainment PC. and a dsl modem and linksys router. when i connected my laptop to the modem directly and then after it connected, i took out the ethernet cable and put in the linksys. then i connected to the linksys and it would connect to the internet. But after a blackout a few weeks ago, it doesn't work anymore. explaination?

ok, so i can, but it how come it doesn't work anymore. would a blackout make it stop working? i had a blackout a few weeks ago

It should work on standalone basis after having been properly configured. It looks like the power outage messed the router configuration. You would need a PC to access the router's software and reconfigure it. If router does not respond to the PC, it might have been damaged by the power outage.

You will need a WIFI card or a netgear USB adaptor to connect. Try reinstalling, if that does not work, you may had had a power serge when you had your black out - is everything else working correctly?

I have a linksys router with both my laptop & desktop connecting to it wire free. The only trouble I have ad is with my bluetooth connecting to the linksys, but using the Netgear USB resolved that.

First of you will need a router to set up a wireless network. Then there's 2 ways with which you can connect your desktop to the wireless network. You can either use a USB network adapter or a PCI network adapter. If you are not good with computers I would suggest you use USB adapter, all you have to do is insert the adapter in any available USB port, load the software and connect. If you decide to use PCI card, you are gonna have to do some simple installation. PCI adapters are usually cheaper as compared to USB one's. Choice is yours...

Yes, but you will need a WIFI moder or router and a WIFI card in each computer that you wish to connect.

One thing to check! Is the router sending a wireless signal. You will have to get into the router setup to check this.
