Firstly, while price is important, it is not the only consideration. How valuable is your time to you? If you value your time then you should consider Apple. Talk to some Apple users and visit an Apple store. Apple users tend to be the most satisfied.

If you are in education then you qualify for Apple education discount, so don't be put off by the initial prices. However, even after discount you will be able to find a cheaper windows machine. However, low price is soon forgotten if you get poor performance - it's worth paying a bit more for years of good performance.

If you really need to run Windows stuff then you should know that this can be done on Apples.

I'm not saying that Apple would be best for you, just don't rule them out without finding out.

Whats the problem with youre old laptop? You know youre supposed to hand them back after your 5 minutes...

Prior to purchasing, you should check the all the digits are in the right place and its a high spec model. It should be at least 16 years old..(This is very important.)

You can get a good deal in Thailand although the motherboard may turn out to have a knob too many.

I suggest you buy a Stringfellows2000.

For bang for the buck Dell is hard to beat. Look for their coupon deals. You can now get a E1505 with core duo on sale for under 700.
