Laptops & Notebooks - November 2006

My sister has not been able to get online for a week. "IT" her computer won't connect to the internet or find the C~drive. Any laymans terms for what the problem/problems may be? I am going over to see what I can do,any information on what could be causing this problem would be most helpful. Thank you in advance ~A~

im thinking of getting a laptop. it says it has a built-in wireless nteworking for cable free internet connections. This computer, my houses main comp (pc) has broadband and my mum pays for that.
how do i work it that i get the internet on my laptop without paying, and my mum doesn't have to pay anymore???
does it just connect automatically with the built-in wireless thing? thanks

I am looking for a cheap($700-1,000) light but good enough for college used laptop(no games, some music)
so i don'y want anything too fancy like sony(too expensive, and not that great) or hp(too heavy)

I got a HP Pavilion dv9030us notebook the other day and at first the fan didn't run all the time. Today, I've noticed the fan seems to be running all the time!!! Why is this? I noticed it now because before the notebook was pretty silent now its a little bit louder all the time!!! Please give me some suggestions on what the problem is, or if there is no problem. I'm not familiar with laptops at all.

My wife has a Compaq Presario 1277 that's she's had for many years. It stopped working a few days ago. The light on the front of the laptop that indicates AC power turns on, but that's about it. It doesn't turn on at all (with or without the battery in). In the end, all I need to do is get some old data off of it. Is there a way to do that?

I'm shopping for a laptop with a screen size btwn 10-14inches. I am looking for a laptop that doesn't overheat and burn up only to constantly shut down. My Toshiba laptop currenlty does this so I think I am staying away from Toshiba's as well as Sony's (I hear the latter gives same problems too). Any suggestions for any great brands and/or models to consider purchasing?

I want a nice laptop that will make me think "I am so glad that I chose this laptop". The laptop should definitely last for a long time meaning it will keep up with the futures' laptop standard for the next 5 years. I don't really have a favorite side because it is going to be my first laptop. I will use it for typing, playing music/videos, and major web surfing.

I will be using for school. But I want something that will make other people's laptops go to shame.
Other than that I want a really fast laptop. It should be able to run multiple file, documents, etc. all at once(i.e. downloading music/video and surfing web or watching a movie.

I have brought this laptop at costco and return it because it was little crappy so I brought a another same 1 from Cash cards they gave me. I got this laptop on the 8/02/2006 at 13:13 so I was wounder If i can return it on the Janurary because It suck like the 1 before and I want Vista pre-install it has a 6 month policy thing. Will they take it back even because I have brought on a Cash card by returning somthing.I also have my slip that says that .

Ok 1 more thing I got the laptop for 1,073.74 included with tax the laptop was 999.99$ Is acer better or I should go get a another company's PC which is better.

ok i have a dell. I plug in the ac adpator because i think the battery is dead. When i do this no ligths turn on, but i try to press the button to trun it on and nothing happens.
