my dell (Before i went mac) had the serial number under the battery, disregarding the sticker on the bottom. imagine the sticker unattaches itself, who would know what your serial is? so they had to make a second option. so, under the battery, the serial number lies. mind the various names for the "serial number" aswell.

It is usually on a sticker attached to the bottom of the laptop.

I believe that it is the Service Tag Number.
