will they be a conflict if i install a dvd player and a dvd rw.?

i have alot of old dvds and i would love to make backup copy of them but i don't no how

There should not be. In fact, you can mix n match of Floppy, CD RW, CD Player, externals drives all in one Windows Box. That may be true on Linux also.

But, it may not be true on weird servers from biggies :-)
