I know this is a longshot, but I need to find the location of the jumper to disable the SATA ports. I have an HP Pavilion desktop a1020n.
Manufacturer: Asus
Motherboard Name: PTGD-LA
HP motherboard name: Goldfish3-GL8E

I bought an internal harddrive, only to find out that the ports on my computer don't work. My brother bought an IDE to SATA kit, but needs to disable the SATA ports to install it. Everytime he tries to call or chat with someone from HP, they put him on hold and never come back.

Thanks in advance for any help you might offer.

All of a sudden it is a bit lower than the right-click key...and it's really sensitive, all I do is touch it, not even push down on it, and it clicks! This is ALL OF A SUDDEN. I swear I didn't do anything...but it doesn't appear at the same level as the right-click key next to it..and when you push down on it it barely goes down but it does its left-click job...why did this happen!? And waht can I do to fix it, it is annoying =(

I have a Dell Dimension 4550 and I'm just not sure what kind of motherboard it is. All I have found my looking on my computer is that the mainboard is Dell Computer Corp. Can anyone help? I was wanting to upgrade and get more ram (2GB), a better video card, and a better cpu.

This cpu is what I'm wanting to get, or at least another 3.2GHz:

Intel Pentium 4 640 Prescott 3.2GHz 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor

Or:

Intel Pentium 4 641 Cedar Mill 3.2GHz 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 EM64T Processor

Thanks,

My parents bought a 1.2Ghz Celeron Compaq 5310US back in 2001, and it can't be upgraded (CPU, Memory, Video Card). It is as far as it can go with RAM and a video card. I want something better, but the problem is I'm in college and I don't have the cash to buy a brand new computer.

I did a lot of research and found that the case supports mATX mobo's and I'm thinking about getting one that supports a Core Duo 2.6 Ghz. This upgrade also requires a new power supply, new memory and new hard-drives since the old stuff is incompatible with such the newer motherboard.

I found all the parts needed for the upgrade and as far as I can tell they will fit on the case. And everything mentioned above is going to cost $460 ($415 with rebates).

My question then: is this a good way to go? Or should I try to save a little more and completely build a new pc?

If any of you have upgraded major components in brand Pcs I would love if you could share how difficult it was for such modifications.

My laptop has a full hard drive and is overflowing with media files -- TV, movies, and music from iTunes. Has anyone else out there had this type of problem and found a good solution?

I want to add storage capacity (at least 100 GB) and want to store and transfer these files as easily I do from a flash drive.
Do most USB 2.0 external hard drives just show up as an extra drive the way a flash drive / jump drive does? Or do you have to use the included "backup" software to manage files? Online descriptions and product reviews have left me confused.

I use a wireless / ethernet router at home but is a network attached storage drive the best/only option? I've setup a network to share a printer and files but that is about the limit of my abilities so options involving a great deal of technical expertise aren't what I'm looking for.

Laptop is using Windows XP home edition if that matters.

I saw in stores their display laptops don't have batteries installed but still run, i was wondering does my laptop work if i took out its battery but plugged it in to a power outlet? I don't want to try it firsthand cuz I might damage by unit.

Does anyone know where to find information on an integrated graphic processor? It is a Radeon IGP 340M. I know this is an old and obsolete graphic, but I was wondering about it, specifically the specs like supported processors, bus frequency, graphics core frequency, and most importantly its socket type. Thanks. I should be more specific, i would like information about what i asked about above, that would actually tell me something. The ATI website has no useful information about this.
