I know this is a longshot, but I need to find the location of the jumper to disable the SATA ports. I have an HP Pavilion desktop a1020n.
Manufacturer: Asus
Motherboard Name: PTGD-LA
HP motherboard name: Goldfish3-GL8E

I bought an internal harddrive, only to find out that the ports on my computer don't work. My brother bought an IDE to SATA kit, but needs to disable the SATA ports to install it. Everytime he tries to call or chat with someone from HP, they put him on hold and never come back.

Thanks in advance for any help you might offer.

You should be able to disable the SATA in BIOS.

And why would you need to disable the builtin SATA ports any way if you're using a PATA to SATA converter?

If you looking for a specific jumper, you need the manual that came with the board , that will give you the locations of all you jumpers, but if not get onto Asus and see if you can get a photo copy emailed to you? you have all the numbers maybe a serial number to boot will help. Even your local pc shop may help.
