Hardware - November 2007

I bought it new, installed it, played it for three days and it stopped reading it. My brother uninstalled it to reinstall it but it saids insert disk. I cared it back to wal-mart changed it out and my computer still won't read the disk.

Essentially my laptop isn't for gaming (Graphics card and processor etc) and the video card is okay it would seem but most games have a habit of not recognising the laptop's video setup or say that i should upgrade (only for Vista to say there aren't any!)

i bought it 3 months ago and i have a 1.86-9GHz intel celeron processor, ATI Radeon X200M integrated motherboard, 1Gb RAM, 80Gb harddrive, 8xDVD drive and further more. I've read that it's difficult to upgrade laptops, esp graphics cards. slowdown is noticeable esp on Oblivion and i would like to know is whether by adding more RAM, (around 2Gig) could it be possible to improve the amount of ram given to the video card. i was thinking that at least 2 gig ram may increase the quality. any upsides/downsides from adding more ram, i read that you must be careful and that computers have a max amount. my laptop is new so of the top of my head i wwould assume it could take a fair amount (also i'll probably get a tech guy to install it

I have a Compaq Presario Laptop, and I must've stepped on it at some point, so the screen is all cracked and I can't see much on it. I was wondering how much it will cost to replace it and where I could find a new screen?? It is actually the whole family's laptop, so I feel really guilty and want to fix it. If someone could help, I'd really appreciate it!!!!!

Hi i have hp 530 laptop.Currenty I installed new windows. But after that I coudnt hear any sound and when I tried to play media files the dialog box says "no sound device found". How can I fix this problem? Plz anyone help me.

I ordered a Acer Aspire 5570 notebook. It will only be used for internet surfing. Was this a good choice? This may sound like a stupid question, but is there any way to transfer data from my old notebook to the new one? Needless to say, I don't know much about computers!!

But there is no sound while in safe boot mode. I have completely wiped the drive clean and reinstalled every thing. The system test tell me there is nothing wrong. Don't know what other info is needed.
And I know nothing about computers. I had someone tell me to run it in the safe boot mode until I could find out what is wrong to fix it. Thanks for the help.

well, im using my laptop and it goes warmer as i use it, when it goes really hot it turns of automatically it is not a wireless laptop. And it wont let me do a disc cleanup. When i take it to be repared, the people just take my money and hardly do anything to it. What should i do ? ( i do not want to buy a new laptop yet )

Hi there, i have and HPZD8228EA laptop running windows XP, last night someone turned it off by justing holding the on/off button so it didn't have time to shut down properly. Now when i try and turn it on it just shows a blank black screen with the mouse present. I have tried the options of starting in last previously known settings and safe mode but i don't really know what to do.

I would be brilliant if someone could help me with this problem, although i would like to keep the stuff on my hard drive as i have quite alot of music.

the pen really works and all but it's always in "right-click" mode. so whenever i drag it across the desktop this square thing appears every time. and i can't even double click an icon neither drag it across the screen.
And whenever I use photoshop or any paint programs it writes automatically without the tip touching the tablet
does anyone know the solution to this problem? >__< please and thank you! :)

i have xp home edition service pack 2, i can't get any usb storage to work i.e my camera my mp3 player ..etc
i have a vivitar 5188 camera which doesn't come with a driver. it does work with any other computers but not mine. how can i get my usb to work normal? it seems that some of the windows files are missing! please help.
p.s other devices connected via usb are working perfectly its just mp3 players, usb sticks and storage devices. thanks in advance !

I already own a desktop that I bought in 2000 & it's not very fast & it doesn't have alot of memory. We have a family of four & I thought about buying myself a notebook computer & leave the desktop for the children. I would like to know which would be better: to buy a notebook computer, upgrade the one I have or just get a replacement desktop with more speed, memory and dvd/cd burner? I mainly use the computer just to type documents from time to time, download photos from my digital camera, download songs for my ipod and to surf the internet and sometimes the kids play games. I would like to be able to burn the pictures onto a disc as well as be able to hookup my digital camcorder so I can burn the movies onto a disc and one that is expandable. I really don't need a mobile computer. Which is the better brand to buy Toshiba, Dell, eMachines or what? If I bought another desktop how would I go about transfering all of my software and documents to the it? Thanks.

Hi all, i hope the question is clear enough. The main thing is that i dont want the children to use microphone feature for voip or msn or yahoo messenger. But at the same time i have no objection for watching movies and listen songs. Also i dont want to make separate accounts for this purpose. I am using windows XP, IE7.
