That will be enough.
Either operating system will work for you most likely, Vista has better security but for example, most companies are not upgrading their current computers (with exceptions of course) to Vista since they feel it is not worth the expense.

Either OS will work technically on that sort of hardware (don't know processor or video card but if this is a new laptop, I'm sure either will work). If you intend to connect to a lot of legacy hardware (camera, printers, scanners, etc...), do a quick check and see if those vendors provide Vista drivers. If they don't, then go with MS XP. If they do have drivers, then you might as well go with Vista.

The spec you mention is fine, and is more or less the norm today. As for Vista or XP, I really think this is not your choice because most retailers will have Vista preloaded and I should imagine it would be very difficult to find new computers for sale with XP on any more.

It seems that it should able to cope with Windows Vista. If you're going for Windows Vista, also look at the VGA/Graphics card. Buy ATi or nVIDIA!! Not other brands, not Intel.

well my suggestion is install both,because rite now vista is rely unstable and does nt hv any service pack,wait till next year ,there may be service pack 1,.. then meanwhile u can use xp, wait till next year when more things is able to run with xp,then onli u use it,or else u got to purchase vista if u install xp rite now.
