It's overheating and switching itself off - otherwise it would catch fire - with your lap too ! ! !

This may be because your laptop is overheating. If you are using your laptop ontop of a piece of material like carpet or somesuch other type, don`t. Your laptop underneath needs lots of air to cool it. Place it ontop of a table or a piece of glass. If it still shuts down then it could be too overheating problems. You need to take it back to the shop if it is still in warranty, as there could be something wrong with the battery or the cooling fans inside.

If enginneers are taking you for a ride, ask for a report as too what work they have done and then check it with someone else. They may just be cowboys who are ripping you off, then you can report them with some evidence. As for the disc cleanup then it could be your hard drive overheating as it thrashes around looking for stuff.

If you can get it on, get hold of a program called Ccleaner, as this will do a disk cleanup for you. As well as other usefull things.

Good luck with it....

It sounds like it is overheating, they can do this if you actually use it on your laptop rather than on a desk.

The BIOS has settings whereby it will power the machine off when it overheats to prevent any serious damage to itself.

Sometimes in the BIOS you can also find settings to increase the fan speed or just to keep it on the whole time, but I doubt this will make much difference.

This problem is caused by 1 of the following.

1.Your Laptops fan is not functioning
2.Your Laptop processor has insufficent Heat Sink Paste on it to allow Cooling.

Stop taking it to this repair shop, and report them to your equivelent of Trading Standards.

Ring the Manufacturer and ask them to give you the name of a reputable repairer.

The cost of the repair if its the above is very small

It's turning OFF because it's too hot. Blow some air through it. Not easy, you need to find a source of compressed air. You can buy tins of it. DO NOT shake the tin. Run CCleaner, etc. Only take your machine to a place where they do not charge to diagnose. There are a couple near where I live, besides me that is!

We had the same problem with one of ours. We got an extra fan, put in on a specially designed pedestal with holes everywhere to allow proper air flow. Nothing worked, however; it stopped doing this when we stopped playing on line games and it has never done it since. Who knows.....:-)

There is a heat sensor on the motherboard and rather than frying your motherboard it turns off. mine did that until I got a cooling pad.. Great investment.. just like spongebob sheets!

Take it off your lap! The fan is overheating - you will fry your hard drive eventually.
