Here is a quote that would possibly help if i even understood it a little:
"You cannot just go get any old speed ram, it has to match the bus speed of the main board. Find out the speed of the ram stick that works, and if that is the same as the speed of the one that doesn't [3200], then the one that doesn't is defective or the dimm slot is."-- wouldent the RAM speed be basically.. the RAM?

Mainly i want to know how to find what RAM is compatible to my 'bus' (which what i read is the exact same thing as RAM..._ any ideas?

In addition to this question: Should i get a new graphics card? right now i got an integrated card but i want to play GOOD games(Starcraft 2, Overlord, Halo1-2, and such) . but then again i want directX10, so should i wait for 2 years till the cards arnt 500+$? right now 200$ is almost over what i could possibly afford. whats your opinion?

I'm comparing a T61 thinkpad to a 2.2Ghz MBP. They are both about the same price.

Linux support would be good.

I just bought a 100gb Hard Disc Drive Multi-Media Player. In order to get it work properly and show files on a TV it is supposed to be formatted in FAT32. However, Windows XP only offered me the option to format in NTFS and I foolishly clicked 'ok'. The drive works fine on the PC but when connected to TV it states that it has no files on it. Can anyone tell me (in simple terms if possible), how I reformat it back into FAT32 in Windows XP (even though XP doesn't offer this option via the usual 'right click, select 'format' route')? I have no need to worry about losing data because I only put some files on it to test. I'll be happy simply to fully format it again. Thanks to anyone who can help me. Tony

OK, I need to know what motherboard and operating system you're using and any other problems I should look aout for such as RAM compatability.

I've been looking at upgrading - possibly to an EVGA mobo and a quad core CPU.......and then upgrade to Vista home premium.

This is a PC that has to do everything - act as a TV, DVD player, games machine, word processor, graphic design/ media editor and of course, music player.

I'm currently running a P5N-E SLI mobo (which doesn't support more than 2Gb of RAM as claimed by ASUS - system won't boot....locks up at POST and can't enter BIOS) 2Gb Kingston Value RAM, e6420 Core 2 Duo overclocked @ 20%.

Your knowledge and help will be much appreciated

Hello, I might have lost my old computer since I have a new one and my uncle thought that the old one was no longer needed. So, he took the computer out to the ranch and used it for target practice. There are three half-inch bullet holes in the pc that he managed to get before I stopped him.

Is there a way to get my old pc fixed or is it too late? I am not joking so please answer.

I'm shopping around for computer parts, and I think I have settled on an EVGA 680i TR version motherboard.

http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?pn=122-CK-NF63-TR&family=20

My question is this - the board says it comes with 2 pci E x16 slots, and one pci E x1 video sli expansion slot.
Does that mean that if I run two matched cards in SLI mode, they will both still run at 16x ? Or is the 1x expansion SLI slot going to run one card way slower than the other?

Thanks for the help :)
