For example, could my computer work with a 256 MB stick in one slot and a 512 MB stick in another slot for a total of 768 MB of memory?

I tried adding 2 new 512 sticks to the 2 512 sticks of ram I already had. The Newegg website said that it would be compatible, but after I put it in it totally screwed with my computer, and it was not booting at all. I got it to read one of the two original 512 sticks, but now I am at 512 MB instead of a gig like with both sticks.
Help please.
The new ram would not work at all, and I was messing around with the different slots, and it seems that the two older sticks that came with the computer will both work in the fourth slot, but not the first second or third slot. I have some new ram coming in the mail, but if it is the sockets themselves with the problem, will I just need to get a single stick that is a gig? My computer can handle four gigs, so could I put a two gig stick in one of the four slots, the one that is working well?
I had a tech look at it, and he got the two old sticks working in 3 and 4, and it worked but when I came home yesterday, it was back down to 512????

I have just purchased a Maxtor Basics - Personal Storage 3200 - 500 gig for some cheap, extra storage.
I plugged it in and it is all working fine but it registers as only 465 gig. Where the hell is the other 35?
Has it been stolen by some government funded gig monster?

Seriously though, where is it?

My PC is low profile (thin) so only low profile cards fit my PC, I also only have two normal PCI slots and one of the very small x1 PCIe slots.

i have a brand new computer that came with windows vista. the computer runs very slow and i think it is because of the RAM. comp only came with 512MB of RAM and i heard vista can eat up 700MB just sitting there doing nothing. it takes like 5 or 6 seconds just to close and internet window out. Will more RAM solve this problem?

It was a new cartridge, not a refill. I haven't printed that much from it, so I know it's not empty. It's in an HP Photosmart 7660. The 56 color is fine and the Photo 58 works in the socket.

How does the intel gma 950/900 (64MB shared Memory) with 1GB ram and 2.164 Ghz processor compare to the nvidia geforce 6150 LE? (not sure of shared memory) with 960MB shared ram and a 2.0 Ghz cpu (Dual core). I want to run certain games, but I don't know which processor would run them better.

I have just put windows xp on my laptop and at the moment I have 128 mb of memory. It is still running very slow and doesn't seem happy at all. I will soon have 256 mb of memory. Can anyone tell me if this will be enough to speed it up to normal running.

If I take out the platters from an electronically damaged hard disk drive and put them inside of a working drive [different capacity, model & maybe different brand], is it possible for it to properly function, at least until recovering data?
Or it needs to be an identical unit to the one I take out the platters from?
