Try reseating the new RAM module. It may not have been installed properly.
Also try interchanging slot w/ your first RAM module. Your first module is most likely a 512Mb also but w/ 128Mb shared as videoram for the integrated graphics.

On some machines, RAM must be installed in pairs. Meaning that when you add ram, you must install 2 of the same sticks to get them to work. If you can, I would suggest removing the original ram and replacing it with another 512k stick so you have 2 of the same.

If you know your machine will take single sticks, make sure your new RAM was seated and installed properly.

I wonder if the 512 MB memory stick is not properly installed with the "ears" on both ends locked in place. Make sure it is in firmly.

Secondly, is the new 512 stick the proper type for your pc? Make sure it is compatible with your system. It could be the wrong type.

Thirdly, is the 512 MB stick defective? It could die from static exposure easily.

learn "actual memory - comprehensive" decrease than "job supervisor - overall performance" tab. Use "Ctrl-Shift-Esc" ;) BIOS maps hardware from 4GB downwards so which you will have something like 0 to 3GB addresses for RAM and from 3 to 4GB addresses for hardware. a great variety of BIOSes will remap the final 1GB of RAM to the 4 to 5GB handle variety, regrettably with customer 32-bit abode windows variations after XP SP1 Microsoft overlook approximately any actual memory addressed above 4GB so which you will no longer generally get right of entry to it despite the fact that it is there for use. As Daniel reported verify your BIOS and replace if mandatory. IMHO 32-bit classes are nonetheless going to be the norm for a pair of years yet on account that for the main significant section a utility author can actual looking assume his 32-bit utility* to artwork on the two 32-bit and decrease than wow64 on sixty 4-bit as long because it is heavily written so saves time and money from having the two 32-bit and sixty 4-bit variations. despite the fact that there could be a overall performance hit working 32-bit utility on a sixty 4-bit OS as a results of thunking it won't generally be great. So it comes all the way down to what you specially desire. in case you prefer to run particular sixty 4-bit utility and you haven't any longer have been given any themes with a sixty 4-bit OS then choose for sixty 4-bit. in the adventure that your contemporary 32-bit OS runs each little thing ok because it is then carry on with 32-bit even however you're able to experience cheated out of your comprehensive 4GB of RAM. you are able to continually improve later to sixty 4-bit and probably via that factor you would be finding at upgrading to a sparkling device that helps lots extra beneficial than 4GB of RAM and makes lots extra helpful use of a sixty 4-bit OS. ;) *different than for kernel drivers
