dual core-3GB system ram-128MB video ram---anyway it freezes up on me right in the middle of a Shockwave game (Destroyer), but not all the time. I have a new video card(256MB pci express) that Im afraid to add as I killed my last pc with too many add-ons. This is my favorite game, and Im not sure what to do about it. Any suggestions?

Well you didn't really tell us enough about the current video card to make a good judgement, but judging by the amount of video RAM it has, I would say an upgrade is probably necessary. Go ahead and add in the new card, as long as your power supply is big enough to handle it.
