the duo is a later design ... imo a good amdX2 will perform every bit as good but i would want the intel in a laptop coz i think theyre alittle better on battery ..

The Core 2 Duo is the top CPU out today. The Turion X 2 is pretty close and sells at a big discount. Pretty close but the Intel runs cooler and uses less battery. Important to note that the Core duo is not the latest Core 2 duo.

Intel Centrino is a complete Intel Platform containing their processor (Pentium M, Core Solo or Core Duo), chipset and wireless chip. Centrino Duo has the Core Duo processor (32 bit only) in that platform. It is expensive because Intel market it as a complete PLATFORM (more of a marketing strategy).

AMD64 X2 is JUST a processor. Its mobile version is AMD Turion X2.

Coke or Pepsi. Take your pick. In the real world you're not going to notice a considerable difference between them. Either way you get a dual core mobile CPU in the "5600" range that conforms to the "Centrino" or "Turion" spec. Whether you get the AMD or Intel platform really would come to which is a better combined value overall and what other components (RAM, video, hard drive, cost, etc) are in the laptop that make one the better deal over the other.

The price is different because they are two different companies providing two different processors.

Right now, similarly clocked and cached Intel chips have the edge over AMD chips as far as performance goes. But AMD usually has a better price point.

If you are not doing high end processing, you will not be able to tell the difference between the two.
