my old laptop would just change from ac power to battery power when i unpluged it. but my toshiba satellite turns off when i unplug it from ac. how can i make it so it just goes to battery power when i unplug it?
my battery is good. its new. and if i just turn on my laptop without having it connected to the ac power it works just fine. i just cant keep it on once i disconnect it. it just completely shuts down. it doesnt go on standby it shuts down. the problem is not my battery.

Hello everyone, I'm currently running a custom built PC with a 2.0 ghz P4 and 1 gb of RAM. I recently upgraded from a GF3 Ti200 to a 7600GT graphics card, and I've been reading that my 350w power supply won't be enough to run reliably even though I haven't had problems in the few weeks I've had the GT. My motherboard has the one AGP slot and a bunch of PCI (not PCIE) slots and I'm also running 2 hard drives, case fan, a DVD burner and some others eg USB cards. I'm wondering if I should go with a 500 watt PSU:

http://www.dealsonic.com/fspgrax50pr2.html

or a 700w:

http://www.fsp-group.com/english/1_product/2_detail.asp?mainid=1&fid=98&proid=462

My first priority is to take the new PSU with me if I get a better computer made, but budget is a close second. I also want to know maybe most importantly if these PSUs will plug into my parts (ie work) because I see mentions of PCIE in the specs which I don't have. Should I upgrade at all and if so should I go with the 500W or 700W? Thanks!

I accidentally hit the switch on my computer once and it turned off everything. I went ahead and restarted my computer and everything was fine (I wasn't working on anything that needed to be saved).

Could this damage my computer if it happened once?

They were both working fine until I installed the video card. I double checked to make sure they were both connected properly. They are not even showing in the bios anymore. The only thing I can think of is that my power supply is only 500 watts and it says it requires 550 watts. Do you think this might be in issue. Thanks in advance.

I'm currently comparing two Alienware computers, the Area-51 7500 and the Aurora 7500. They are essentially the same computer, but the Area-51 is Intel-based and the Aurora 7500 is AMD-based. I've got two questions regarding overall performance:

1.
The Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6400 2.13GHz 2MB Cache 1066MHz FSB
vs.
The AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 5600+ Processor w/ HyperTransport and Dual Core Technology.

The Intel costs $300 more, but the AMD is a "higher-end" processor among AMD's line. I'm wondering if the Intel is worth the extra $300, and how good performance would be for both processors.

2.
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8600 GTS
vs.
320MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8800 GTS - "Superclocked"

The 8800 costs $180 more than the 8600, and the graphics card would only be used for light gaming (e.g. the occasional Age of Mythology) and Aero. My main question is how the performance compares between the two graphics cards, not just for Age of Mythology, but also for more intense games.

I had to restore my system yesterday, but I didn't really lose anything, except for some hard drive space. Someone suggested defragmenting. What does this do?

Here they are:

Motherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131013
Processor - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103747

I am aware that the processor is out of stock, there's not need to remind of that. The thing I'm worried about is the FSB. The processor says 2000MHz, and the mobo says it supports 1000MHz. Will there be any speed reduction at all, or is the 2000MHz just 2 x 1000MHz because the CPU is dual core? Thanks in advance.

Currently, I have an old Dell Dimension 8200 1.8ghz with 768 MB of ram and a Geforce 5900fx. The computer I'm looking to build is as follows:

PC CHIPS A11G V1.0 Socket AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ Brisbane 1.9GHz Dual Core

Patriot Extreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel

SAPPHIRE Radeon X1650PRO 512MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card

Western Digital Caviar SE WD800JD 80GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

350 Watt power supply

With all the rebates and discounts I was able to find, I'll be able to build this system for $275. That's the best price I've seen in a long time. I'm kinda vague on how dual cores work compared to single-core, so will this system be a big step up and are there any conflicts I'm not aware of? Thanks!
