They were both working fine until I installed the video card. I double checked to make sure they were both connected properly. They are not even showing in the bios anymore. The only thing I can think of is that my power supply is only 500 watts and it says it requires 550 watts. Do you think this might be in issue. Thanks in advance.

First of all, whenever a video card requires a certain PSU rating, you would want to have a PSU higher than that rating. This is simply because most PSU aren't efficient, depending on the quality of it. The lower the quality of your PSU, the higher of a rating you need to have. Only with those very excellent quality PSU that you can get away with 550W rating. HD 2900XT is a power hungry GPU, due to its 80nm process, power leak and those stuff.

For your PSU, you might need a higher rating one. Problem might surface when you really load your entire system playing games. And there is a possibility of PSU unable to keep up, although usually the vga card should be the first to stop working. But yeah, it is a very good possibility given that the rating is lower than the requirement, it might have affected the PSU output and cause some hardware to not function.

The only way to tell is to borrow a better PSU, roughly 600W if you can, and test it on your system to see if the dvd drive will work.
