I would never use anything as thermal grease that is not certified to be placed on the processor as you run the risk of killing the PC.

NO, you should buy thermal compound and use nothing else. You can also buy thermal pads, but thermal compound is better.

May I suggest Arctic Silver 5: http://www.arcticsilver.com/as5.htm

The reason is that you need a compound that can and is efficient at dissipating heat. No household items can replace thermal compound or pads. If your processor overheats, it will fry.
