The intel older architecture have deeper pipeline and hence they require higher frequency. But it doesn't translate to higher performance. Always keep in mind that Celeron is a budget processor, they aren't made for performance, just for low cost for user who are budget concious and doesn't need a super fast PC.

Imagine this. Processor A takes 10 clock cycle to execute an instruction. Processor B takes 5 clock cycle only. That means B can execute at the same processing speed with just half the frequency of A. Just to explain why frequency doesn't directly translate to performance

You can't just compare the speeds you also need to consider the databus width. The Athlon is 64 bits vs. the Celeron 32 bit bus.

IF you look at the benchmark tests you'll see that the Athlon performance is considerably better than the Celeron.

Over efficiency is 62 vs. 24.

See link below for bench marks on these and other processors.

You do know that you have to swap the mainboard to use the Intel CPU, right? That'll add $100 or more to the upgrade price.

Better to invest on a good video card instead.

EDIT: Your CPU is not that bad. What video card do you have now? You may get better performance by upgrading video card (and may RAM) as you never mentioned any details.

okay.......huh.......where to start! lol

the processor you have now is more powerful then the one you want to change to.

changeing the processor you will also have to get a new motherboard

a new graphics card will not improve or change the ghz of your processor.

you should just buy the best graphics card that you can afford, and you will be surprised, and a physix accelorator.

NO!!!! Celeron is a SLOW Processor!!! The AMD Athlon is much faster...Why don't you overclock it a little if you want more speed???
