Well we have this old 1999 Gateway Essential 500 computer with a P3 497 MHz that always seems to be at 100% usage. I used a few tools and I guess this is the motherboard

Tabor3 WS440BX (TB3 600 maybe?)

I was wondering if I could see what all it could handle and maybe some place telling it. We don't have the manual anymore and I can't seem to find anything on Gateway's website. It has 512MB which is enough right now btw.

I recently added a 256MB memory chip to make a total RAM of 512MB in case that makes any difference.

I have been wondering how to benchmark my current set up with the games I have. I am aware of the benchmarking software from FutureMark such as 3DMark06 and such but how do I get benchmarks from the games I own such as Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 and FarCry and others. I see game reviewers do it all of the time. How do they do it, is there something in the game I need to unlock or what?

So i just bought this new laptop and im really excited about it because we have been putting it off for a really long time, and now i actualy have it. But i want to use the built in web cam ad mic, however i dont see any buttons, or anything to click to activate it, or get to to it. I have used the search tool, looked in the manual, and tried a few various things, but found nothing related to it. But i have absolutley no clue how to get to it so that i can use it. So if you know how please let me know. My notebook is a HP Pavilion dv23 10us . Any help is appriciated.

I bought a new Macbook Pro and I want to completely erase and restore my Powerbook G4 and sell it. Unfortunately, I no longer have the Installer Disk for it, and I can't use the Intel-based disks on it. Anyone know of a way to do it?

I have a P4 2.8 HT, 1 GB ram and a 64Mb ATI all in wonder 7500. Plenty of HD space. I'm willing to upgrade the vid card to a Radeon X1600 (agp) and adding another 512mb of ram. Will this improve my pc performance?

I'm a graphic designer and usually work with Corel Draw, Fireworks, Photoshop, Flash, etc. I'm not willing to upgrade the micro or the mobo.

No guessing please.

My desktop shut down while I was using it and won't start back up. I opened it and it was pretty warm. I'm thinking that my power supply burned out, but I'm worried that other damage was caused? Anyone have this happen to them? It had been making funny noises that last few weeks, but had recently stopped.

I installed a new hard drive on my comp, how do i get my new hard drive to have windows xp and no xp on my old hard drive. I want my new hard drive as my main hard drive and my old hard drive as my second. I want xp on the new hard drive and remove xp from my old hard drive.

I've just replaced the power supply in my Gateway (420GR) due to a bad fan in the otherwise working old supply. With the new supply, the fans only spin-on (all case, cpu, and ps fans) only when the P4 connector is not attached. (the keyboard lights go on for a second as on reboot but then the mouse and keyboard show no life) When the P4 connector is attached, the fans begin to spin (for a very small moment) and then stop. In neither case does the system seem to boot.

This behavior is experienced with both the new power supply and the ond supply, but only after the old supply was re-installed. Before the supply upgrade, there were no issues with the system.

Does anyone have any idea what could be the cause of this issue?

I have a Compaq Presario 5000 series. I have 256MB of RAM right now. I want to upgrade my RAM to 512MB. I called the Compaq/HP company and they were useless. What I want to know is, can I get RAM for this PC? If it makes a difference it is SDRAM, any answers will help.

I just bought a Lexmark X5470.

I have DSL and out of my lone phone jack, I have a splitter. One end goes straight in to the DSL modem and the other used to have a DSL filter and then my phone plugged in to that. My phone is connected to the EXT on the Lexmark X5470. In order to use the fax machine, should I connect it to the DSL filter I had my phone connected in to?

any help is appreciated.. i know the card in it is a 4x agp card.. its a dell optiplex gx420... i paid dirt for the comp.. runs great though... 1.5gz 1 gig of ram.... on the last question i asked someone stated i could reflash the bios to be 8x compatible... im not comp illeterate so i can learn if its possible. but when i install the gx 5500 card the tower starts up... but the moniter does not come on... the light just stays in stand by.... as last any help is greatly appreciated the vid card was a present so no big loss... just would be nice to use..

I have an Advent Media Centre PC. Recently I had to "flatten" the system and reinstall windows after a series of problems with it. Initially, the sound drivers were lost, which I was able to restore from disc. However, there is no disk to install the Media Centre software. Does anyone know how I can restore the Media Centre Software, so my computer runs in its out of the box state? I've only had it a few months, so it's still under warranty.

Please note: I am referring to a Media Centre computer, not Windows Media Player, which is a different thing.

I hope someone can help me resolve this issue. Thanks in advance.

Yes, still using them (at work). I recently had trouble getting the files off of one because the metal thing is bent on one side, and has loosened up a bit. Any idea on how to retrieve those files? I was able to force it in the drive, but it was asking me to reformat which I believe will erase the files. Please help!
